This sailing ship was built in 1892, on this ship it is special that the crew's quarters are underneath the afterdeck. Because of no constructions on deck you can look around easily. The once used tarred wooden shutters moved over and now it's a clean, painted, steel deck, but it's still an authentic sailing vessel. On deck you have enough space to zit together and enjoy the sun. The sails are controlled by hand, just as in good old times. And, just as in good old times, there is no steering wheel, but a tiller. It's very special experience to steer such a big ship only with one finger on the tiller.
Foremost the most important thing on board is safety. The crew pays a lot attention to explain the guests the use of the sails, so everybody knows how to sail on this ship. The crew appreciates when you help sailing, but you don't need to be experienced. Especially for little children De Arend is very suitable; there is a large railing around the deck to be sure of their safety.
