The Vrouwezand was built in 1903, hence in her second century. Until 1976 The Vrouwezand was used as a cargo ship on the Dutch inland waters. She sailed English and Danish ports as a single masted ship. She has been renovated in 1976 as a 2-mast sailing barge (tjalk) and became one of the first ships in the so-called ‘brown fleet' (‘bruine vloot'), which is the Dutch name for many traditional ships that are equipped for paying guests. Yvonne van Scheijen bought the Vrouwezand in 1994 and the barge was overhauled thoroughly. During the winter 2012 the sleeping cabins has been improved. Now she is a comfortable boat with modern equipment and an up to date safety outfit. Inside the Vrouwezand one finds a spacious comfortable lounge with a very well equipped galley and a professional cooker. Of course there is hot and cold running water in the galley, shower, and washroom. You find a coffee-maker and two refrigerators. In the lounge we have a large dining-table and a small one, to have a drink or play cards at. You can choose from a variety of 20 berths with different widths and lengths (up to 2.40 metres) and everywhere you can stand upright. The ship has separate ladies' and gents' toilets. Light, fresh colours change the ship into a spacious, cosy, and comfortable ship. Skipper and owner Yvonne van Scheijen has a degree in biology, and since she was a little kid sailing has been her passion. Since 1990, she is able to combine these two interesting fields of sailing and biology. Her years of experience can be used to discover those places that have all aspects you like! Every year the skipper chooses another mate, so this will be revealed when you get on board. A sailing team will be formed together with the guests and there is enough space for activity and relaxation.
